Cedrus atlantica
Cedarwood atlantica (also known as Cedarwood Atlas) is native to the Atlas Mountains of Morocco and Algeria; the evergreen tree belongs to the Abietaceae plant family and grows up to four metres height. It is shaped like a pyramid and has oval cones and grey-green needles. The essential oil is extracted and distilled from the aromatic wood of the tree and is produced in Morocco and Lebanon.
Atlas cedarwood oil works well as a fixative in natural perfume because of its tenacity in the dry down. The oil is pale yellow to light orange in colour and is viscous.
Virginian Cedarwood essential oil is also available.
